Bachelor of Arts specialisations:
Design Students study the Theory of Design, Space Design, Graphical Design, IT for Design, Material Science in Design, Ergonomics.
Decorative Applied Art and Traditional Crafts Students study composition, they learn to treat leather, fur, wood, bone, stone, metal. All students study the history of culture and arts, IT, computer graphics, they obtain theoretic knowledge and master skills of painting, drawing, chromatics.
Elective courses:
Landscape Design Live and non-living components of an environment to create or change natural complexes.
Interior Art Methods of designing interiors for different purposes; theory and practical skills.
Stylish Accessories Design Professional accessories design; professional competitions, displays, exhibitions, fairs.
Photographic Art Theoretical principles, basic genres, skills of IT processing of photographs.
Book Graphics Practical skills in book graphics; creative atmosphere.
Wood Carving Theoretical and practical information for artistic wood treatment; practical skills.
Carving Bone and Stone Developing projects; modern and traditional techniques to make bone and stone carved articles.
Textile Painting (Batik) Theory; skill training for textile painting.
Making Leather, Fur, Textile Articles Traditional techniques; author’s techniques of material treatment; realising students’ conception in the articles of decorative applied art.
Department of Design and Decorative Applied Art
The leading department at the Faculty of Design.
The mission is to develop students’ abilities and gifts, refine their taste. We aim at training specialists for creative, cognitive activity, research and practice. Students attend workshops, pleinair sessions, have lectures and copying works in the Russian Museum, the Russian Museum of Ethnography, Kunstkamera Museum, Arctic and Antarctic Museum etc., have training at design companies, Chamber of Crafts, ateliers of famous artists. They take part in competitions, exhibitions, displays.
Preparatory Courses and Design and Applied Art School are open. Their graduates pass an interview to enter MIEP. All applicants should present their drawings, paintings, and compositions.
Academic staff are highly qualified, they are members of the Saint Petersburg Union of Artists and the Russian Union of Designers.
